Bunty Aur Babli -- Bunty and Babli
MAIN CAST:
Abhishek Bachchan -- Rakesh/Bunty
Rani Mukerji -- Vimmi/Babli
Amitabh Bachchan -- ACP Singh
BRIEF PLOT OVERVIEW:
Vimmi and Rakesh are small-town loafers with big dreams: the former wants to become Miss India, the latter dreams of being known world-wide. When both of run away, only to have their plans for success fail, the two team up as "Bunty and Babli," the greatest con artists India has ever seen.
FILM -- 5/5
The thing I really love about BnB is how fresh and original it is. Movies about heists aren't original, that is, but all of the little individualities and details really make it stand out. There are so many cute scenes and lines in this movie, I can't just name a few! The choreography is good, the camera work is perfect, and the script is fun and entertaining. The costuming is generally top-notch, although I think Abhishek Bachchan's looks are a bit too elegant and mature for pleather and sleeveless vests. There's nevera dull moment during BnB; the movie had my full attention the whole time. BnB is just plain darling!
CHARACTERS -- 4.5/5
Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji are a dream team! I was never a huge fan of Abhishek as an actor until this movie, but now I think he's definitely Amitabh's son, and he's found his calling in fresh comedy. Rani looks truly gorgeous, and while her crying gets to be a bit much sometimes, I figured that was part of othe humor. These two are at their comedic best in BnB; they compliment each other as actors and have incrediblie on-screen chemistry. Unfortunately, Amitabh Bachchan didn't quite do it for me in BnB. It's not that his acting is bad--it's just fine--but his character is mildly obnoxious. He also looks a bit tired...his age is really starting to show. Still, I loved watching him dance with his son and daughter-in-law in "Kajra Re!" The supporting cast is okay; there are some good Indian actors, but the white actors are wooden and godawful. Also, I know a lot of people said "Kajra Re" was horrible and Aishwarya Rai looked awful, but I have to ask...what are these people talking about?! Ash looks unbelievably sex!
SOUNDTRACK -- 4/5
In typical Yash Raj fashion, BnB's soundtrack just can't fail. The movie opens with "Dhadak Dhadak," a catchy and upbeat song that you just want to dance to. Aishwarya's item number, "Kajra Re," has a really great beat and gets stuck in your head. "Chup Chup Ke" is typical Yash Raj romantic fare, but it's okay, and I like it in-film because of the Abhishek/Rani chemistry. "Nach Baliye" is an awesome club song that I love dancing to, and the title song is quirky and fun, if a little tiresome.
OVERALL -- 5/5
Despite all of its flaws, I really loved Bunty Aur Babli. It's an example of what modern Bollywood should be: entertaining and heart-warming! It made Abhishek and Rani one of my new favorite jodis, pushed its way on to my "top 50 Bollywood films" list, and finally proved to me that Aishwarya Rai can look like more than a China doll. Even better, this movie is great for Bollywood beginners as well as seasoned fans. I recommend Bunty Aur Babli to everyone!
TOTAL SCORE -- 18.5/20 (almost perfect)

This one was a lot of fun and the Kajrare number was a delightful surprise (when I watched the movie, I didnt know that there was an Aishwarya item number on the menu). As to Amitabh's "age is really starting to show" - dont you think its been showing for the past 25 years at least?
I loved this super-cute movie, although I agree with you about the gori actors; holy mother, people, I'd do a better job, and that too for free! LOL Abhi is the king of Bolly-lite; too bad his more serious roles like in Guru and Sarkar seem to be getting money & critical acclaim more often.
Bollyviewer: Amitabh has looked older physically for a while, and that's fine. But compare his fluidity in K3G to his awkward gait in BnB. It looks like he has arthiritis, and it wouldn't surprise me if all of that movement really did make him ache. I just don't want Big B to hurt himself.
Ajnabi: I actually really liked him in Sarkar, and I think his Booming Bachchan Voice (TM) and elegant appearance lends him to those kinds of roles. But his true calling is probably stuff like BnB. He has great comedic timing!
I'm glad you saw this. I really enjoyed it as well. Cute and fun. Can't wait for to review all the movies. :)
This movie is also one of my favorites...it was such a fun movie:)
Nicki: I'm probably going to review Ankur next, but if I have a bad day I may change my mind! =P I'm also trying to resist the urge to be 100% serious when I watch Baazigar, LOL!
