Welcome!

"The Bolly List" is a list of films I have seen and reviewed. As the title would suggest, these are all Bollywood movies. (I am currently resisting the urge to rate all of the Tollywood and Teluga movies I've watched!)

Each film I've seen is rated--on a scale from 0 to 5--in four dimensions:
1. FILM -- the story, the dialogue, the dancing, the cinematography, etcetera.
2. CHARACTERS -- how interesting the characters were and how well the actors played them.
3. MUSIC -- just what it says. Even if the rest of the movie sucks, the music might be awesome.
4. OVERALL -- how I felt during and after the movie and it's replay value.

Finally, the scores are added up, and the film is given a text rating based on a scale:
20: perfect. Similar to an A+.
18 - 19.5: almost perfect. Similar to an A-.
15 - 17.5: great. Similar to a B+.
13 - 14.5: really good. Similar to a B.
11 - 12.5: okay. Similar to a B-.
8 - 10.5: mediocre. Similar to a C+.
6 - 7.5: bad. Similar to a C-.
4 - 5.5: very bad. Similar to a D.
3.5 or lower: complete disaster. Similar to an F.

I keep an alphabetical list of all of my reviews so far and update it roughly once a month: http://thebollylist.blogspot.com/2009/06/master-list.html

I usually watch at least one new Bollywood movie a week unless I'm really busy (which I guess is a sign of addiction, but whatever), and sometimes I watch as many as four or five. I type up written reviews for most of the films several days after viewing them, although sometimes I just never get around to it. Also, every year I will try to compile a list of the 10 best films I saw that year. That doesn't mean they came out that year, it just means that's when I reviewed them.

Disclaimer

Please remember that these are just my opinions. I think Diwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is one of the greatest movies ever made, while other people think it's a bunch of cliche romantic fluff with crappy 90s music. Taste is subjective, and I love knowing that my opinion is the not the ONLY opinion. In other words, don't have a hemorrage if I didn't like your favorite Bollywood movie. My taste in movies is especially strange. =P
